Rain approaches Saint Petersburg as a storm builds over Tampa Bay and comes west. Tampa Bay area enjoys intense but brief tropical thunderstorms during the summer months. Rain can sneak up on you while out of doors, but the real concern is the lighting which can lead a storm and strike the ground well in advance of the rain.
