Forming part of the string of barrier islands along Florida’s Gulf Coast, Treasure Island has some of the widest and best beaches in all of Tampa Bay.   Treasure Island caters to tourists, particularly those spending their winters in Florida.  The beaches are backed by condos and apartment buildings and across the road you will find restaurants, shops, and other distractions.

On Sundays at the Treasure Island municipal beach you can find a longs standing drum circle.  The group forms in mid to late afternoon and continues onward after sunset.  You can easily find over a hundred people meeting up for music, dance, or simply to catch up on the weeks past event.  Treasure Island beach is also distinctive in being one of the places where alcohol can be drunk on the sad, provided you do not bring glass onto the beach.

The beaches are also a favorite nesting place for sea turtles.  You can find their nests marked and protected during the summer months and if you are particularly fortunate on a moonlit night find the eggs hatching and volunteers helping the young turtles into the ocean.
