Although Hurricane Ike turned to the west when it came into the Gulf of Mexico and headed toward Galveston, Texas parts of Tampa Bay were affected by Ike’s storm surge. Gulfport, Florida had the roads near Boca Ciega Bay awash with seawater on September 9, 2008.
